SUPERNATURAL FOES
Can God give you enemies?
Why did God harden Pharaoh’s heart?
Or was it God who really hardened Pharaoh’s heart against His own chosen people—the Israelites?
Hold on to that thought and let’s move on…
Why did King Saul hate and plan to unalive David?
“An evil spirit from the Lord tormented him.”
Don’t get lost on the phrase “from the Lord”.
An evil or wicked spirit was troubling Saul the king.
Satan was disturbing him, keeping him restless and pushing him to spitefully work against a young man who had done absolutely nothing wrong to him.
But again, why?
(Keep asking why till you get to the real reason).
Satan being a spirit being was likely keenly aware that God’s Hand was on David and that God would establish the great kingdom with him.
Yes, the Anointing or Spirit of God was on David.
And, Christ would come from the same lineage!
What’s more interesting?
The chapter where God sent Samuel the prophet to anoint David (and where thereafter the Spirit of God came powerfully upon David) is the same chapter where it was recorded that the Spirit of God left King Saul and an evil spirit came to trouble him.
This would lead to a series of events where Saul, motivated by the same evil spirit and envy, would repeatedly try to unalive David an innocent man.
Yes Saul felt threatened by the rise of David.
He envied the fact that David was anointed.
How foolish for a man to envy the gift of God!
It is like insulting or making mockery of God’s decision to choose, elect and use a man.
It is tantamount to questioning God’s judgment.
But behind the scenes, there was more going on.
Satan also knew David had been anointed by God.
The spirit realm was aware of what had transpired.
Angels and demons knew what had happened.
As God can cause people to like you and favor you supernaturally even when you have done NOTHING special for them, so also Satan can cause people to hate or disfavor you supernaturally even if you have done nothing wrong to them, matter of fact even if you’ve done SOMETHING special or good to them.
However remember that Satan is subject to God.
He can do nothing without God’s knowing.
And we can dare say, without God’s approval.
God is Sovereign—and absolutely in control.
God can allow Satan to raise enemies against us.
This is what we may call God-given enemies.
Or supernatural foes—activated for a purpose.
Don’t fret! They have their role to play per time.
There’s a reason for that. Watch and see their end.
Like Pharoah. Like King Saul. Like Satan (in view).
Those who don’t learn from history…
A bientot!
