MOCKERS

A mocker is someone who laughs at or makes fun of someone or something in an unkind way, often by imitating the other person’s words or actions.

Or someone who jeers or treats something or someone with contempt or calls out in derision.

Such a person is basically a flouter, jeerer, scoffer, and a disagreeable or an unpleasant person.

They can be cynical or doubters.

In some contexts, the term “mockers" may refer to people who are known to bring bad luck or interrupt something (often good) from happening, like in the phrase: "the rain put the mockers on that idea".

Mockers can also be individuals who express scorn, ridicule and show contempt for truth, wisdom, and righteousness, as described in the Bible.

Believers are warned not to keep company with mockers.

Apart from the fact that mockers can mislead the just from the path of justice and truth, mockers will be duly punished by God—for all those who fulfill injustice and who pervert the truth and the laws of God attempt to mock but God can’t be mocked.

According to Proverbs 19:29a, “Punishment is made for mockers.”

Let’s close with solemn words of the First Psalm.

“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.”
