GOD COMFORTS AND CORRECTS

The True Church is governed by the Scripture.

God leads His people by His Spirit and Truth.

His Spirit inspired or authored the Scripture.

His Truth is clearly documented in Scripture.

True believers are not afraid to receive nor are angered by genuinely Scriptural guidance, encouragement, rebuke, reproof and correction, as the case may be.

As we humbly and joyfully receive congratulations and encouragement for jobs well done, we should also humbly and joyfully receive correction and admonishment when we deviate from the Truth.

This is for our spiritual good and preservation.

Children of God will be both comforted and corrected by our Lord and Father, as we journey through life, walking rightly, erring sometimes, then learning and growing spiritually in grace and in the knowledge of Christ.

“For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” (Hebrews 12:6, ESV)

“The Lord corrects the people he loves and disciplines those he calls his own." (Hebrews 12:6, CEV)

The Scripture was given in love by God to inform, instruct, comfort and correct us accordingly.

“All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness.” (2 Timothy 3:16)

Doctrine refers to teachings, tenets, principles and practices of a code or system of belief.

Reproof involves highlighting out someone's errors or wrongdoings, whereas correction entails encouraging someone to change their actions or conduct. (Geeks for Geeks)

Reprove implies an often kindly intent to correct a fault. Rebuke suggests a sharp or stern criticism. (Merriam-Webster)

I admit and agree that it is tough for the flesh to take rebuke and correction even when it is needed, much less when it is but unfounded and non-constructive criticism.

We need continued supply of God’s grace, wisdom, discernment and humility to navigate the tough terrain of commendation and correction, if we are to be accurate in the Spirit, in the things of God—our life walk with Him and life work for Him.

Grace, peace and overall capacity for this to us.

Amen.

With love,

Dozie
