FAVORITE PREACHERS?

I don’t think I should have a ‘favorite’ preacher.

When it comes to Scriptural Truth, we should not do personal sentiments and individual biases.

I have favorite music artistes based on personal preference for their sound, style and lyrics.

That’s subjective and based on my own taste.

Many people have a favorite football or soccer team.

We may also have favorite meals, color, cities, etc.

But when it comes to my faith and walk with God, the only taste is Truth, the only text is the Written Word, the only focus is The Kingdom, and the only Personality or Ultimate Center of Attention is Christ!

No human personality steals the show from Him.

Not in my heart and mind.

Not in my consciousness.

Not for my sole allegiance.

For I know Who exactly is LORD of all.

I know God is no respecter of persons.

I also understand what His Will or Truth is.

Gratefully so, only by His Great Mercy and Grace.

So I was somewhat puzzled or mildly disappointed at what I perceived (I may be wrong) to be carnality when a supposed pastor, an elderly man who has been watching me online, mentioned the name of a pastor and Bible teacher to me as the person who he considered to be my favorite preacher so-called, obviously because he is privy to the fact that I listen to him a lot and also publicly share his teachings.

That’s John MacArthur.

Yes, I do follow and recommend his teachings.

But it’s not because of any personal hero worship, subjective opinions or individual sentiments.

Rather, it’s because over the years, he has proven to be faithful to the Text of Scripture and has kept the True Focus of Christ’s Gospel and Teachings.

The Spirit and the Scripture bear witness to this.

I remember my first encounter with his ministry was several years ago with the hardcover version of his great book titled, “Kingdom Living: Here and Now” (which was originally published in 1980).

It caught my attention as a young boy back in the day, amongst other books, and I read it voraciously and digested it meaningfully; it made a strong impact and left a tremendous deposit of God’s truth in my heart and mind, reinforcing my personal study on Christ’s Sermon on the Mount (The Beatitudes).

There are other ministers, peeachers or theologians who I consider genuine and faithful to Scripture and who also I keenly follow and listen to; and I take this opportunity to also recommend their preaching and teaching ministries. They include (amongst others):

R.C. Sproul (in glory)

Paul Washer

Voddie Baucham

John Piper

Sinclair Ferguson

Burk Parsons

Dustin Benge

These are mostly Americans and based in the USA.

There are a few Nigerians I also listen to, many of whom may not be very popular but are scripturally accurate, or relatively so, in my objective view.

When we find such faithful stewards of Scripture, we support, promote, encourage and are loyal to the Truth and the Ministry of God’s Word that they so diligently and wholeheartedly labor in or serve to the Church, the body of genuine believes in Christ.

If it’s not the Truth of Christ and the Gospel of His Kingdom, then I don’t trust, submit or bow to such.

My ultimate allegiance is to Christ and Him alone.

He who loved me greatly and gave His life for me.

To Him be praise and glory, now and forever more!
