THE EVANGELISTS

This is a list of empowered evangelists whose mighty ministries have been widely acclaimed and well-known in my home country Nigeria, and across the continent of Africa, and also globally.

They have directly impacted me and many others with the preaching of the Gospel of Christ, with notable miracles, signs and wonders.

This list here is limited to evangelists who I have had the privilege of listening to, personally being in their meetings and also reading their books. 

Especially those who served within my country.

Perhaps, I may do another on the pastoral office.

Benson Idahosa, a Nigerian-born pioneer of citywide Gospel campaigns, who had tremendous influence and the powerful gifts of faith, healing and working of miracles. He was bold and audacious. He began ministry in 1968. I watched many videos of his powerful preaching and the mighty manifestations of God’s power. I read his biography, Fire In His Bones: The Story of Benson Idahosa, written by Ruthanne Garlock. He was from Benin City, Edo State of Nigeria.

Reinhard Bonnke, a German evangelist who was passionate about Africa being saved by the Gospel of Jesus Christ from a vision he had of the continent being washed in the Blood of Jesus. I watched videos of his messages and read his books, Evangelism by Fire, Mighty Manifestations and The Holy Spirit Baptism. I also clearly remember my late father and I attending one of his great Gospel campaigns which held in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I think it was on one of his final rounds of Gospel events across Africa before he retired and passed.

Uma Ukpai, a Nigerian evangelist blessed with the gift of faith and working of miracles, who held and spoke in big meetings. He was instrumental in pioneering the united front and fellowship of Pentecostals in Nigeria and building bridges across denominations, both Orthodox and Pentecostal. He was an Igbo man from Ohafia, Abia State but resided in Uyo, Nigeria.

William Kumuyi, a Nigerian preacher who has been involved in massive Gospel campaigns. Known for his messages on holiness and purity, proclamation of the Cross and healing miracles. Also, the general superintendent of one of the large church congregations. A well-respected and notable leaders in the Christian community.

Chris Oyakhilome, a Nigerian evangelist of the Edo extraction. A powerful and charismatic figure. An enigma of his own kind. I recall being in two of his powerful stadium events in Lagos and Port Harcourt, in Nigeria. Great atmosphere of worship, word and the anointing of the Spirit. Also, a great and inspiring teacher of the word.

David Ogbueli, a beloved Nigerian pastor, teacher, author and evangelist. A leader who is passionate about raising leaders that transform society. Well-rounded, knowledgeable and wise master builder with a good heart and strong authority. He is an Igbo man from Alor in Idemili South, Anambra State of Nigeria. I remember his citywide Gospel meetings with insightful preaching, teachings and healing miracles.

Also, later on are these well-known evangelists:

Paul Enenche, a fiery and articulate preacher. A trained medical doctor who pastors one of the large church congregations, headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria. A great leader and father to many great, younger pastors and evangelists.

David Ibiyeomie, an influential preacher, great author and beloved leader of one of the large church congregations, headquartered in Port Harcourt. Known for his passion to see people blessed and lifted out of poverty to prosperity.

Arome Osayi, a powerful preacher who has is known for his integrity and for bringing correction to certain malpractices in the church community. He is also known for raising strong voices who preach the truth of God’s Kingdom.

In conclusion, I will not fail to mention these great and highly respected preachers who have been fathers to many generations of preachers.

Pa Enoch Adeboye, a Nigerian pastor and the general overseer of the largest congregation in the world.  A highly respected leader of pastors and who has gathered huge multitudes of people in his meetings and founded a great camp/city.

Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, an influential preacher and leader of Pentecostal movement in Nigeria.

Bishop David Oyedepo, a Nigerian preacher who has been a pioneer of world-class Christian private universities and highly respected leader of one of the largest church organizations. Known for his faith and favor for great exploits.

Bishop Wale Oke, an influential preacher and key leader of Nigeria’s Pentecostal movement.

Bishop Mike Okonkwo, an influential pastor and notable leader of Nigeria’s Pentecostal body.

Billy Graham, an American evangelist known for his great influence even among American presidents and holding massive Gospel events.

Benny Hinn, a Jewish-American evangelist known for his great worship and healing meetings and his Gospel campaigns, where he proclaims Jesus. I watched a lot of his videos growing up and mostly enjoyed the intimate, beautiful worship sessions.

R. W. Schambach, an American evangelist who was known for large tent meetings with powerful messages and manifestations of the miraculous. I remember seeing his video messages which my father had bought and brought to the house.

I honor these great fathers and servants of God.

I honor their great lives and great legacies.
