YEYEBRITY?

Dear Celebrity,

Being in the spotlight can eventually take its toll on one’s mental health—I empathize deeply with you.

Be encouraged to maintain your centre of gravity.

In other words, stay grounded, stay centered and stay connected to your essence and inner mojo.

Now just a little word of caution for those of you who have let fame and fortune get the better of you.

Fame is illusion.

Money is intoxication.

Listen, just because you have people’s attention and admiration doesn’t necessarily mean you are better than them or should take them for granted, regardless of the fact that you’re now very rich and somewhat influential in your field or sphere of life.

People pause and take out time to listen to you and to appreciate your work.

A lot of people celebrate your talent.

Plus, you are immensely rewarded for it.

The hype and fan excitement can be overwhelming.

But don’t be deluded into thinking you’re special.

You’re freaking human like the rest of us.

Don’t let all the hullabaloo turn you from a beautiful celebrity into a vainglorious or conceited yeyebrity.

Don’t let the dark side of sudden fame and fortune transmogrify you from a star into a scūmbag.

Unless that’s what you already are or want to be.

Ask those we have been high up there before.

You’re not the first and won’t be the last superstar.

We love you, and just because we hype and freely promote you doesn’t make us dēspicable either.

We respect you—don’t insūlt us direcly or indirectly.

We know you love your mum—we loved ours too.

Do your thing—we’re rooting for you!

Amongst many celebs, we chose you as our fave.

Maka Chukwu, don’t pour spittle on our poor souls.

We won’t insult you back. We would walk away.

Maybe shed a few tears in private but it’s none of your business. It’s our cup of coffee to drink.

We’ll learn our lessons and respect ourselves.

And do what we need to do in the background.

We see you. You don’t see us.

You’re big enough. We’re small to you.

Allegedly.

Everyone who knows anything, knows this:

Life is a continuum.

À bientôt!
